Excellent customer service. Order window with fast service. I had the fried flounder sandwich combo w/ onion rings for $8.99. Drink not included. But if you want one they do offer free refills on lemonade, mango or cherry drinks. I've tried them all and the mango and cherry are really good. Waters are $1 for the cup.
The sandwich was great. Onion rings were beer battered and cooked to perfection. Also ordered lemon chess mini pie and sweet potato pie at $5 per pie. Clearly the pie can serve 2-3 people. Very good. Coconut pie not so much. Highly recommend this place.
Be aware this is a take away order place or eat outside at their tables or your car. I have been here more times than I care to admit. -

We stopped in specifically to try the Sol Taco cart at Sugar's. First of all, it took FOREVER.
Second, the tacos don't taste like tacos. Not a hint of what you'd expect in a taco, except that it's on a soft, flour tortilla. We tried chicken, fish and shrimp. I only ate the meat out of each one, because the other accompaniments were not good.
Third, you can't even pick up the tacos to eat them; they're way too stuffed. Normally that might be a good thing, but the "insides" aren't good, so more is just more in this case.
Fourth, the shrimp fajitas were the best thing we tried, but again, they don't taste how you'd expect. STRONG Old Bay seasoning on these, which is a little weird. The rice and beans that came with them weren't awful, but they were just okay.
Fifth, never again on the taco cart. The regular food stand is fine. -

This is definitely go to for quick seafood! Sugar's is conveniently located on Chamberlayne Ave in the Virginia Union area. This walk-up seafood place is worth the line you stand in to eat. I ordered the fried fish platter and selected the whiting. The fish was fried nicely. The right ratio of fish to batter. Though it could have used a little salt in the batter I still enjoyed the fish on buttered toast.
I also had the opportunity to split the bread pudding with my aunt. OMG! That bread pudding is definitely the 2nd BEST I ever had. My great aunt makes the best! The bread pudding was composed of simple ingredients that danced on your tongue and had you longing for more.
The service was efficient and the guys that take your order are very friendly. This is the perfect place for a mid-day snack or lunch. I will definitely be returning! -

Sugar's is a great summertime spot to get some seafood because they have outdoor seating and it's a pretty chill atmosphere. I've only really had the salmon burger which I've enjoyed. It's usually on the lunch special board.
The other thing I've had here (that makes me keep going back) is bread pudding. Now, when I tell you this is going to be the best bread pudding you've ever had, it's an understatement. I only know of one other person who makes bread pudding this good and it's my 96 year old grandmother!!
Try it!!! -
